Sharron Leeming

Owner & Artistic Director
Sharon Leeming Mann; R.A.D., A.D.A.P.T., I.S.T.D.

 

Sharon is a diverse & talented teacher & choreographer who started her teaching career in dance in 1973. Her choreography has received numerous Overall Awards, including the Top Production Trophy for the past 10 years & many of her students have won Dancer of the Year titles in regional & national competitions of both Candance & the American Dance Awards. One of her students most recently won Junior Miss Candance for North America in 2008.

Former students have performed as backup dancers for Lady Gaga, in Cirque du Soleil's Love in Las Vegas, and in the lead role of Wicked, San Fransisco and Mary Poppins on Broadway. Other shows include Dirty Dancing, Lion King, Mama Mia, Hairspray, (Toronto) and 42nd Street, Saturday Night Fever, Boy From Oz and Oklahoma on Broadway and in the movies Chicago and Honey. Still others are dancing in Toyko Disney, in Stratford, Ontario, on cruise ships or have forged their own career as dance teachers.

Mrs. Leeming Mann is a Full Member & Registered Teacher of the Royal Academy of Dancing & a Full Member of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association. Sharon holds the Advanced Certificates with Honours of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in both National & Modern Dance & is an Accredited Teacher with the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers.

Since 1993 she has had the privilege of adjudicating dance competitions across Canada & the United States for such associations as the American Dance Awards, Candance, Rhythm, Dance, Dance Canada, C.D.T.A., the Peel Festival & the Wild Rose Festival. She is a former competitive gymnast & has performed in many dance & theatre productions. Sharon is a graduate of the Canadian College of Dance, Ryerson University, Toronto & founded Leeming Danceworks in 1989.

  Deborah Armstrong (Ballet)  

Debbie Armstrong’s credentials as a ballet teacher are impressive. She is a registered teacher with the R.A.D. and holds the Advanced certificate and Solo Seal Award. She was a contestant for the Adeline Genee Award, the Advanced Bursary and Cecil Beumont Bursary and also has her Advanced Cechetti certificate. Miss Debbie was a ballerina for the State Theatre Ballet in South Africa from 1990 to 1999, ending her career as a Senior Soloist and then went on to managed her own studio from July 2000 to the present. She has entered students into auditions, the Genee Awards, bursaries and choreographed pieces for festivals yearly. We welcome Debbie to Canada and to our staff!

  Cheryl Blondin (Tap, Jazz)  
Cheryl Blondin has been the owner and director of Partners in Dance since 1990. She is a full member of A.D.A.P.T. and the Canadian Dance Teacher's Association. Former students have gone to perform in touring companies, Tokyo Disney  and on cruise lines. Ms. Blondin is known as a choreographer and adjudicator and for her excellence in teaching in the most unique and  motivating way. We welcome Ms. Blondin to our staff.
  Rachel Cogan (Hip Hop)  

Rachel Cogan has been dancing at Leeming Danceworks since 1991. She enjoys all areas of dance and has competed in several disciplines. She is a graduate of Canterbury High School's Dance Programme and is currently a student at the University of Ottawa. Rachel has danced in several productions in Ottawa such as the NAC Orchestra Pops Concert, Les Grands Ballet Canadiens' 'The Nutcracker' and the Grey Cup 2004 Cheer Extravaganza. Rachel is very excited to be returning to LDW to teach this year.

  Melanie McNamara (F) B.A.T.D. (Ballet & Paula Morgan Technique)
Melanie is a Fellow member and registered teacher of The British Association of Teachers of Dancing (B.A.T.D.), in all disciplines of dance (Ballet, Tap, Jazz  & Stage).  She owned and operated her own award winning dance studio for 17 years in Ottawa and her ballet background includes training in The Royal Academy of Dancing, Cechetti Syllabus, as well as B.A.T.D.   Since 2006 she has been studying with Paula Morgan (Los Angeles, CA), learning and incorporating Paula’s unique teaching techniques, which has further enhanced the development of her students.  Melanie has adjudicated for many organizations and competitions, and loves to share her enthusiasm and passion for dance with students.
  Isabelle Proulx (Ballet & Jazz)  
Isabelle Proulx has been training since the age of 5 with our studio. She is a student member of the R.A.D. and holds the ADAPT Pre-Advanced Jazz and Intermediate 3 Tap certificates. Isabelle has performed with Les Grands Ballet Canadiens in the "Nutcracker" at the NAC and is a former ADA Teen Dancer of the Year and Miss Teen Candance 1st Runner up. Her duet with Kevin Howe also received the Highest Adjudication 13 &Over and Diamond Choreography, ADA, 2006. Miss Isabelle is currently a student at the University of Ottawa in Health Sciences and joined our staff as a teacher in 2005.
  Jessica Shaw (Tap)  
Jessica was trained at the Greta Leeming Studio of Dance in all disciplines of dance and joined our staff in 2002. She discovered her passion for tap as a teenager and has been sharing her love of dance with her students ever since. Her choreography has won numerous high scores at both the Regional and National level, including first and second place in the Diamond Dance Offs and several title winning performances.  Jessica has her B.Ed and uses the knowledge she has gathered in the classroom to inform her teaching style.  Jessica brings a fun energy and style to her classes and motivates each dancer to believe in their own potential.
  Deanna Smith (Ballet and Jazz)  
Dancing since the age of 3, Deanna has trained extensively in ballet, jazz and tap. She holds the Advanced 2 RAD Ballet certificate and the Pre-Advanced ADAPT Jazz and Tap certificates. Miss Deanna is currently enrolled in both the R.A.D. and A.D.A.P.T. Teacher’s Training Programs and is a former Miss Teen Candance, Footloose Dancer of the Year and 1st runner up ADA Dancer of the Year. We welcome Deanna to our staff.
  Stephanie Therrien (Ballet)  

Stephanie has been dancing at Leeming Danceworks since 1995.  She has been a competitive student since 1999 and joined our faculty in 2006. Stephanie is a full member of the Royal Academy of Dancing working at the Major Advanced 2 Level in classical ballet.  She recently passed her Advanced A.D.A.P.T. jazz exam with Highly Commended. She has also been a member of many Diamond Award and Overall High Score numbers in recent years and won the overall high score for 13 and over with her contemporary solo at Dance, Dance Canada this year.  Stephanie won the title of Dancer of the Year for A.D.A. for the past 2 years and Miss Candance Ottawa in 2009.

  Brianne Tweedie (Hip Hop)  
Brianne trained at our studio for 12 years, studying jazz, tap, ballet and hiphop. She is a student member of the R.A.D., graduated from the dance program at Canterbury High School and has danced in several contemporary pieces at the NAC in the past few years.  Brianne is currently studying at Carleton University majoring in Cognitive Science and is continuing her studies in vocal and drama.
  Gillian Werthner (Ballet and Jazz)  
Gillian has been dancing for seventeen years, studying ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop. She is a full member of the Royal Academy of Dance and is currently working at the Advanced 2 level. Miss Gillian has been a member of many Diamond choreography and overall high scoring competitive groups in all genres of dance. She was an assistant teacher for three years, directed our Summer Dance Camp and has taught for the past 2 years.
