Sharron Leeming

Owner & Artistic Director
Sharon Leeming Mann; R.A.D., A.D.A.P.T., I.S.T.D.

 

Sharon is a diverse & talented teacher & choreographer who started her teaching career in dance in 1973. Her choreography has received numerous Overall Awards, including the Top Production Trophy for the past 10 years & many of her students have won Dancer of the Year titles in regional & national competitions of both Candance & the American Dance Awards. One of her students most recently won Junior Miss Candance for North America in 2008 and 2010 as well as America's Junior Dancer of the Year 2010. Another has taken the title of America's Teen Male Dancer of the Year 2011.

Former students have performed as backup dancers for Lady Gaga, in Cirque du Soleil's Love in Las Vegas, and in the lead role of Wicked, San Fransisco and Mary Poppins on Broadway and in the current touring company. This year a student was one of Canada's So You Think You Can Dance top 20 dancers. Other shows include Dirty Dancing, Lion King, Mama Mia, Hairspray, (Toronto) and 42nd Street, Saturday Night Fever, Boy From Oz and Oklahoma on Broadway and in the movies Chicago and Honey. Still others are dancing in Toyko Disney, in Stratford, Ontario, on cruise ships or have forged their own career as dance teachers.

Mrs. Leeming Mann is a Full Member & Registered Teacher of the Royal Academy of Dancing & a Full Member of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association. Sharon holds the Advanced Certificates with Honours of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in both National & Modern Dance & is an Accredited Teacher with the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers.

Since 1993 she has had the privilege of adjudicating dance competitions across Canada & the United States for such associations as the American Dance Awards, Candance, Fever, Rhythm, Dance Canada, C.D.T.A., the Peel Festival & the Wild Rose Festival. She is a former competitive gymnast & has performed in many dance & theatre productions. Sharon is a graduate of the Canadian College of Dance, Ryerson University, Toronto & founded Leeming Danceworks in 1989.

  Deborah Armstrong (Ballet) Top of page

Debby Armstrong’s credentials as a ballet teacher are impressive. She is a registered teacher with the R.A.D. and holds the Advanced certificate and Solo Seal Award. She was a contestant for the Adeline Genee Award, the Advanced Bursary and Cecil Beumont Bursary and also has her Advanced Cechetti certificate. Miss Debbie was a ballerina for the State Theatre Ballet in South Africa from 1990 to 1999, ending her career as a Senior Soloist and then went on to manage her own studio from July 2000 to the present. She has entered students into auditions, the Genee Awards, bursaries and choreographed pieces for festivals yearly.

R.A.D., C.D.T.A., A.D.A.P.T.
Tricia started her dance training at the age of 4 in Regina, Saskatchewan. She has been a student of Leeming Danceworks since 1990 & is a Full Member and Registered Teacher of the Royal Academy of Dancing. She is an Associate Member of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association, Tap Division & is an Accredited Teacher of the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers, holding the Advanced Certificate in Jazz. Miss Tricia's ballet choreography has received many high scores and awards in competition including Diamond Choreography at ADA in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, and she has been on the faculty of Danceworks since 1992.

Dahlia has been training and competing with Leeming Danceworks for 11 years in jazz, tap, ballet and hiphop. She is a full member of the Royal Academy of Dance and passed her Intermediate 3 jazz exam with Highly Commended Plus. She has won scholarships at Triple Threat, Fastlane, Jump and Coastal Dance Rage dance conventions and received overall high scores for her solos at Candance, Dance Canada, and ADA Nationals in Boston. Dahlia directed our summer dance camp in 2010 and 2011 and is very excited to be teaching hiphop again this year.

Tessa has been dancing since the age of 7 at Leeming Danceworks training in jazz, tap, ballet and hip hop. She is a student member of R.A.D., holds the A.D.A.P.T. Intermediate 3 Jazz and Pre-Intermediate 3 Tap certificates and won a scholarship from CanDance Convention. She has been a part of many Diamond choreographies and high scoring group numbers. She has been an assistant teacher for 3 years and has been working in the office since 2010. Tessa enjoys working with children and has also been trained in voice and drama.

  Mahasin Elkhazin (Kinderdance and HipHop) Top of page
Mahasin has been a student of Leeming for the past 10 years and has been a part of numerous high scoring competitive numbers. She most recently placed in the top 5 highest scoring solos in her age division at the ADA National finals. She is currently working towards her Intermediate 3 tap exam and has successfully completed her Intermediate 3 jazz exam. Mahasin has been a teacher's assistant for the past 2 years and looks forward to working with young dancers and increasing their passion for dance.
  Sofia Ferrarotto (Jazz and SoFIT) Top of page
Sofia is a professional dancer and aerialist, full member of the RAD (Ballet) and ADAPT Advanced Jazz & Tap. She trained for 15 years at the Greta Leeming Studio of Dance & during that time won 3 National titles for American Dance Awards and Candance. Sofia has since worked for Tokyo Disney Japan, Celebrity Cruises, Sands Casino Macau China, & trained with Cirque du Soleil. She has worked professionally in music videos, commercials, tv & magazine ads. Sofia is now the director of her own Fitness Studio: “SoFIT Health & Wellness” where she does personal training, nutrition consulting, personalized meal plans, group fitness classes as well as sports specific classes for dancers.
  Kathy Giamberardino (Jazz and Tap) Top of page
Kathy is a member of the RAD and has her advanced A.D.A.P.T. Jazz certificate. She has been a competitive dancer since the age of seven. Kathy taught a Greta Leeming Studio of Dance from 1999-2008 and at Applause Dance Academy in Regina Saskatchewan from 2009-2011. In 2008, her choreography for People are Strange won 1st place overall in the Pre-Competitive Categories at both CanDance and American Dance Awards (ADA). Kathy is currently finishing up her Master’s in Justice Studies at the University of Regina and is excited to join the Leeming Danceworks team!

 

 

Yasemin Gumus (Ballroom & Latin) Top of page
Yasemin began her dance career with the Fred Astaire Dance School in Ottawa in her early twenties. Within 6 months, she won the Novice-Mix division at the Can-Am Dance Championships in Cincinnati, Ohio. She currently holds four Canadian championship titles, and achieved her successes with the guidance of coaches and World Champion dancers such as Jean-Marc Genereux, and his wife France Mousseau from So You Think You Can Dance. Yasemin has been instructing classes in American Ballroom and Latin styles for 13 years, specializing in teaching couples first dance "Wedding" choreography.

Hannah has been dancing competitively since the age of 8. She has recently passed her Inter 3 A.D.A.P.T. jazz exam with Highly Commended. Hannah studies contemporary, lyrical, jazz, ballet and hip-hop and is thrilled to be teaching hip-hop this year. She attends Canterbury High School’s Dance Arts program and is entering her 12th year. She has completed her leadership in training program at Ottawa University and is certified in CPR and first-aid. Hannah is employed as a camp counselor during the summers at the Ottawa University GeeGee camp and loves working with the children!

  Anisley Paquet (Zumba Fitness) Top of page

Anisley comes to us from Havana, Cuba where she graduated from the National School of Dance. She studied contemporary, modern, ballet, hip hop, ballroom and latin dancing for 15 years and has been teaching for 5 years. Her true passion was realized when she became a certified Zumba Fitness instructor in 2008. Anisley is enthusiastic, determined and a motivated teacher who prefers to think of her classes as Latin dance giving you a workout without you realizing it!

  Emma Portner (Contemporary) Top of page
A student of LDW since 1999, Emma has won many prestigious titles including ADA Teen Dancer of the Year, Teen Miss Candance and high score solo at Dance Canada. Most recently Emma has placed in the top 5 at both Candance and ADA Nationals. She is consistently striving to learn and grow as a dancer and choreographer and has spent 2 summers at the National Ballet School in Toronto. She also regularly attends conventions where she has earned several scholarships including Teen Jump VIP 2009. Emma is also working on her Adv. 1 RAD Ballet exam and Inter. 3 Jazz & Tap exams.
  Sylvie Proulx (Jazz & Tap) Top of page
Sylvie has been dancing for 13 years and assisting for the last 2. She has been in many High Score competitive ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, lyrical and contemporary numbers. She is working on her Advanced 1 RAD Ballet exam and Intermediate 3 Jazz exam. Miss Sylvie is certified in CPR and first aid and has participated in many leadership camps.
  Dominic Prud'homme (HipHop)
Dominic has been dancing since the age of 5. He is a member of the competitive team training in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Contemporary and Hiphop. Dom is working on his Pre-Advanced Jazz,  Intermediate 3 Tap, and Advanced 1 Ballet exams. He has been a teacher's assistant for the past 2 years and taught the summer dance camp this year. Dominic will be teaching hiphop which he feels shows strength, emotion and style and he looks forward to working with the girls and boys to make a fun environment to do what they love, dance!
  Jessica Shaw (Tap)
Jessica was trained at the Greta Leeming Studio of Dance in all disciplines of dance and joined our staff in 2002. She discovered her passion for tap as a teenager and has been sharing her love of dance with her students ever since. Her choreography has won numerous high scores at both the Regional and National level, including first and second place in the Diamond Dance Offs, two first place and one second place in the Candance Diamond Dance Offs and several title winning performances. Jessica has her B.Ed and uses the knowledge she has gathered in the classroom into the dance studio. Jessica brings a fun energy and style to her classes and motivates each dancer to believe in their own potential.
  Stephanie Therrien (Jazz)
Stephanie has been dancing at Leeming Danceworks since 1995.  She has been a competitive student since 1999 and joined our faculty in 2006. Stephanie is a full member of the Royal Academy of Dancing working at the Major Advanced 2 Level in classical ballet.  She recently passed her Advanced A.D.A.P.T. jazz exam with Highly Commended. She has also been a member of many Diamond Award and Overall High Score numbers in recent years and won the overall high score for 13 and over with her contemporary solo at Dance, Dance Canada this year.  Stephanie won the title of Dancer of the Year for A.D.A. for the past 2 years and Miss Candance Ottawa in 2009 and 2010 and most recently she won the National title of Miss Dance Canada 2010!
  Gillian Werthner (Ballet) Top of page

Gillian has danced for eighteen years, studying ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop. She is a full member of the Royal Academy of Dance and is currently working at the Advanced 2 level. Miss Gillian has been a member of many Diamond choreography and overall high scoring competitive groups in all genres of dance. She was an assistant teacher for three years, directed our Summer Dance Camp and has taught for the past four years. She has a degree in theatre and psychology from the University of Ottawa and is currently a student teacher, working on her B.Ed.
